2016 Ludington Fishing Reports
PM Lake- Ice is hit or miss, so BE CAREFUL. There have been a few people fishing in the far back cove and over by Buttersville on an average of 4" ice. Most are running tip ups and having decent success for Northerns, I haven't heard much for perch yet.
No reports from the piers due to wind
PM Lake- Perch fishing is still going decent, better luck earlier in the day (before noon)
Steelhead are starting to move in more as the weather is getting colder
Pier anglers and those surfcasting have caught some steelhead when the winds allow.
Ludington State Park- Fair perch fishing beneath the dam, they are starting to slow down though
Still decent perch fishing in the deeper waters, also a few people picking up steelhead out trolling stick baits, spoons and flatfish
When the winds allow, those surfcasting caught steelhead on small spoons or spawn. Pier anglers also found fish when floating spawn. Boat anglers were few but those able to get out did find some fish in 100 to 125 feet. Most were fishing the top 50 feet.
Ludington State Park- Perch have slowed considerably over the last week, there are still a few being caught near the river mouth though
PM Lake- Still a few decent reports for perch in 20-30 feet of water, most are having luck with minnows
Ludington Piers- A few reports for steelhead earlier in the day, but fairly slow overall

Ludington State Park
A few Kings being taken at the base of the dam, and some Perch have moved in as well
Angler activity has slowed. Boat anglers heading out were still finding a light number of salmon and steelhead in 100 to 150 feet. No word on pier fishing.
PM Lake- The Salmon are starting to slow down with the warm rain over the past week, cooler evenings should push more fish in though. There have been a few good reports for Northerns over the last couple days, along with the occasional school of Perch.
-Several good reports, most anglers are using jigging spoons anywhere from 15 to 30 feet of water
-Some fish being taken in the early morning and late evening, but most fish are going past and into Pere Marquette Lake
Surface temperature readings were about 63 degrees. Chinook and coho were still being caught in 50 to 90 feet. Chinook were caught in the channel as well. At night, walleye were caught off the piers.
Chinook salmon were caught up close in 50 to 90 feet. A couple steelhead were taken in 150 feet.
Pere Marquette Lake-Still some fish being caught near the Badger while jigging, more fish are becoming mobile and staging near the river mouth
Fishing was slow here as well because of the winds and warm water temperatures. The thermocline here also dropped to about 100 feet. Chinook and coho could be found in 140 to 200 feet. A small number of lake trout were also caught.
Pere Marquette Lake - Still jigging kings behind the Badger, but they have slowed down with the heat. The N NW wind over tonight and tomorrow should improve fishing.
Lake Michigan - Still mostly fishing in 100+ feet of water, the water is a steady 70 degrees at roughly 100 feet down. The wind should help with this as well.

Fishing started out good for the birthday boy with a small king and nice lake trout this morning!!! It though came to an abrupt end with not another bite, where I have been catching a good amount of lake trout the past few weeks. We trolled around for 3 and a half hours without another bite then turned west heading toward a cold pocket of water straight out of the Ludington pier heads in 125 feet of water. We took off all of our trout rigs, sped up and put out all bright colors on two, three and five color leadcores along with high wire divers out 120-140 with Yeck fireball and double orange crush. We had 7 bites out on the cold side boating six before heading in. The Lie A Lot is getting booked up in July and august so call soon to book your adventure at (800)-850-1978

Good numbers of lake trout along with some smaller brown trout were caught in 60 to 100 feet. Chinook and steelhead were caught in 100 to 300 feet. Walleye were caught in the basin at night.
The strong waves the last couple of days have the water mixed up, it is dirty and fish scattered. We started south in 50 feet of water and caught a Master Angler 22 lb Lake Trout on a clown dodger with orange spin n glo bouncing bottom with a drop weight. Marked fish but no other takers until we trolled a few miles north and caught a small king on a high diver out 150 feet with yellow sparkler spindoctor and yellow uv meatrig. We moved out to 140 feet of water and had one bite on a high diver out 130 feet with a dreamweaver Silver starburst resulting in a 16 lb master angler Steelhead.
The water has warmed and will settle in over the next few days for better fishing. Call now for your fishing charter 517.712.8709
Fishing was slower today. Hooked into this nice 15 lb Laker being held by James Eash and had two other bites while fighting this one. Then came the long troll as wind kicked up 3 and 4 foot waves and blew in dense fog. While pulling lines at end of trip we caught another small lake trout and a small king salmon. We fished 35 to 65 feet of water. Bites came on one lb wire drop weight with clown dodger and red spin n glo, wire divers with copper dodger and green frog spin n glo, green on Green dodger with green spin n glo, 100 copper with gold flodger and orange spin n glo, 5 color lead core with dream weaver super slim gobie spoon.

Set up in front of Ludington North Break Wall in 45' of water. Trolled from 45' to 75' with absolutely no success. Pull up our six lines and ran south of Ludington pump storage plant setting up again in 45' of water. The water temperature rose almost 3°, which is why we stop there. Set up with dodgers and peanuts and dodgers and spin and glows at or near bottom. The fish came in within an hour and we came in with mine and Mike's (a customer and fellow boat owner here in Ludington) limit of nice Lake Trout!! The water was rough and the weather cold but this crew braved out 1 1/2 hours of fishing to boat 4 of 6 Lake Trout they had on. Fish were in the 53s to 54s, 60 feet of water and bites came on: green glow stingray spoon hit 2 fish, copper can with orange yellow spin n glo hit 2 fish and white can with orange spin n glo hit 2. The fish are biting! Contact us now for your fun fishing trip: WWW.RODMASTERFISHING.COM
Had surface temperatures of 49 degrees. The city fish cleaning station is now open. Good numbers of lake trout are still being caught outside the piers. Small numbers of chinook salmon are starting to show up.
Fishing is picking up! Even with the strong north winds yesterday, the water warmed a couple degrees and the fish have decided to move in. We marked quite a few fish higher in the water column today along with quite a few bottom huggers. We had nine fish bite and managed three nice Lake trout into the net...14 lbs...12 lbs...and 10lbs. They were biting light...and we know why...the one trout had 16 big gobies in it! Fish bit on jointed froggie Rapala on 8 colors of lead, 200 copper with Kelly green/lime green dodger and Kelly green spin n glow with green squid, copper dodger and green spin n glow on wire diver, lime green dodger and chartreuse/red dots spin n glow off wire diver, and 1 1/2 lb lead ball on wire with white dodger and hot orange spin in glow (dodgers were all bumping bottom). We fished 40 to 60 feet of water.

After a heavy blow this week it meant get out and do a little scouting. I ran a solo 3 pole program this am. Fish are scattered making it difficult to locate them. I had 4 bites fishing 40 to 50 feet of water and managed to get this 16.5 lb Lake Trout aboard. This fish and one other bite came on a white dodger with a hot orange spin n glow behind a 1lb ball bouncing bottom. Two other bites were on copper dodger with green spin n glow on a wire diver bouncing bottom. Fishing should improve as we warm up with some south winds. The bay was ice free. The docks are in but few anglers were out.
Should have anglers out targeting brown trout if the weather holds.
We are starting to get out fishing aboard small boats!! There isn't a lot of walleye around compared to other areas of Michigan but there's some around the piers and they are big!! Brown trout fishing is slow but getting better daily! The pier fishing has been fair for steelhead. Contact Lie A Lot Charters soon to book your summer fishing excursion!! (800)-850-1978
